A Note from John Richardson

There have been some changes to the leadership structure at First Free. John Richardson is now the Executive Pastor of Discipleship, and Outreach is under his umbrella of leadership. Each year in the small, rural, church of my youth, we would have a special week with a mission emphasis. With a different missionary each night, the evening services would be filled with accounts of hardships, spiritual battles, and glorious evidence of God’s saving power at work. Each night would

How to Evaluate a Short-Term Mission Opportunity

by Cathy Nelson Compiled from Successful Mission Teams: A Guide for Volunteers by Martha VanCise Over the years, we have had several inquiries from parents or young adults asking us in how to know if a mission trip opportunity is a good one. Questioning is a great place to start because all mission trips are not the same. Ms. VanCise talks about a team that went to serve in the West Indies and was fed popcorn and gravy all

Celebrating Chinese New Year

by William Luo On the afternoon and evening of February 3, 2018, the Chinese Christian Fellowship (CCF) celebrated Chinese or Lunar New Year with First Free American brothers and sisters and some friends from the local communities. This is the third time that the Chinese believers at First Free have hosted this annual celebration. They also use it as a community outreach event

Community Ministry Efforts

Through the years, Outreach Ministries has made a concerted effort to find ways to meet the real needs of our community. God has blessed by bringing us into the right relationships to ask the kind of questions that go deeper than simply what we perceive as needs. This being said, God has provided mission efforts where we can meet ongoing needs. What a great way to develop relationships and build unity with your Sunday Adult Connection, small groups, families

Prayer as Part of Evangelism

by Cathy Nelson In case you can’t recall, we have been doing a series on prayer in evangelism. The September article was about prayer as love, in October we discussed changing the atmosphere of our cities, and in the December article talked about prayer investment in seeing evangelistic movements. We open the new year and conclude the series with spiritual warfare praying, and praying as we talk to people. Ray C. Stedman wrote in his book Spiritual Warfare: How

Anabelle’s ESL Story: Show Them That You Care

by Anabelle Fabellar When I first volunteered at ESL (English as a Second Language) a couple of years ago, my attraction to it was driven by the fact that I’d get to meet and interact with people of different cultures. I’ve always been fascinated by the experience of meeting people who look, speak, sound, and think differently from me. I love hearing their accents, even though at times it’s hard to understand what they’re saying. My corporate job allowed
